Werner Haas, Title to be announced

W. Haas

Werner Haas is the head of the Institute of Information Systems at JOANNEUM RESEARCH in Graz, Austria

After studying engineering physics at the Technical University of Graz, he concentrated on the areas of electronics and computer science. Werner Haas worked several years as an assistant at the Technical University of Graz and in a software company. During this time, he could establish intensive international industrial and scientific contacts, organize post-graduate courses, and present his research activities in numerous publications and presentations. Werner Haas also dedicated much of his time in the organization of scientific conferences geared towards for the industry, working as a consultant and trainer.

Since 1988, he is in charge of the coordination of information at JOANNEUM RESEARCH and  late became Director of the institute.

 

Matthias Klush, Agents and Semantics for Intelligent Simulations in the 3D-Internet (3.12.2010, 09:30)

PD Dr. habil. Matthias Klusch is Head of the Research Group Multiagent Systems, Senior Researcher and distinguished Research Fellow at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) as well as Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at the Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne (Australia) and Private Lecturer for Computer Science at the Saarland University in Saarbruecken. Professor Klusch received his MSc (1992) and PhD (1997) from the University of Kiel and his Habilitation (2009) in computer science from the University of the Saarland, Germany. He is co-founder and steering committee member of the German conference series on multi-agent system technologies (MATES), and chairs the international Semantic Service Selection Contest (S3). In addition, he is associate editor (editorial board member) of the international journals of Web Semantics, Cooperative Information Systems, Semantic Web and Information Systems, Web Intelligence and Agent Systems, and Applied Decision Sciences. Among others, he was program chair of the 6th IEEE/ACM conference on Intelligent Agent Technology (IAT 2007), program vice chair of the 6th international Semantic Web conference (ISWC 2007), chaired the international workshop series on cooperative information agents (1997 - 2008), the first European AgentLink special interest group on intelligent information agents (1999 - 2004) and nominee for the ACM SIGART 2008 Award for Excellence in Autonomous Agent Research. He co-/authored 27 books, and published about 130 papers on agent-based information systems; service-oriented computing; game-theoretic negotiation; semantic Web; quantum computing. Steffen Staab Collective Semantics for Image Retrieval


Steffen Staab is professor for databases and information systems at the University of Koblenz-Landau. He is director of the institute for Web Science and Technologies (West; http://west.uni-koblenz.de) and of the institute for computer science (http://ifi.uni-koblenz.de).
His interests are related to many aspects of Web Science, such as Semantic Web, Web Retrieval, Social Web, Multimedia Web, Software Web and Interactive Web. Steffen held positions as researcher, project leader and lecturer at the University of Freiburg, the University of Stuttgart/Fraunhofer Institute IAO, and the University of Karlsruhe and he is a co-founder of Ontoprise GmbH.
